When you write a book, the publishers always want to weigh its quality by the pound. They want big, thick books–lots of pages and words– because they believe in some form of fuzzy, ancient, pre-digital age logic, that people judge value by heft. They don’t judge ideas or inspiration. Instead, they look at the way the manuscript tips the scales (or heaven forbid, fails to).
