Flirting With Beyonce…. Dancing With Toyota

In business, we are always peering through a mirror of optimism. The next big thing. The game changer deal. The trophy client.
It is what makes us get up in the morning, race to the office, work through the nights when we could be reading the paper or watching a ball

Funny thing. I got a letter from our local Chevy/Pontiac dealership offering to help me out. They were expressing their sympathy for me buying a Toyota, and offering to help me out of that unfortunate situation. They are offering to “buy me out” of my Toyota, and allowing me to purchase a quality American made GM product. Gotta give them credit for capitalizing on the mistakes of their biggest competitor.
As a marketing professional, I enjoyed the direct mail marketing attempt very much. I do still love my Toyota, but will do more research the next time I am in the market for a vehicle.

Sorry one mistake doesn’t make it a failure. My next car will also be a Toyota.

Choosing style over substance is never a good long-term business strategy. Vigilance is required by small and large companies to avoid the lure of the temptress. Reminds me of the recent Superbowl ad cycle that repeats every year. Lots of style. Sales? Not so much.
But who dares to sit on the sidelines? Where’s the flash in direct mail? Or in putting 1 more ounce in the bag of potato chips instead of taking 1 out?
